Spiros and Maria Malafouris Library and Museum (Hernani)
The Library and Museum of Spyros and Maria Malafouris (Hernani), which was a donation (in May 1996) to the Section of Philosophy of the former Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology, became part of the Department of Philosophy. The Library and Museum of Spyros and Maria Malafouris (Hernani ) was launched on 1-30-1998. Spyros D. Malafouris (Hernanis), C. Inspector of Secondary Education, philologist, historian, writer, donated everything that makes up the Library and Museum that bears the name of the Malafouris couple. The Library contains about 6,000 volumes, of which 2,300 have been published from 1610 to 1900, and about 900 manuscripts (which include Riga’s Thurius and Foscolo’s Tragedies). The Museum includes thirty-two paintings (most of them are from the 19th century) and hundreds of engravings (with rare maps from the 18th century) and other exhibits (which include “vagaries of nature” and personal items of Th. Kolokotronis, Ugo Foscolo and El. Venizelos). The Spyros and Maria Malafouris Library and Museum (Ernani), which has operating regulations and a modern multiple electronic storage system, can be visited during working days, all mornings of the week.
